A collaboration with Paolo Sanino, working near Isla Chanaral will hopefully result in acoustic recordings of blue whales from this region. The blue whales were present in the Chilean summer of 1997/98, but absent the next year when acoustic recording was included in the study effort. These whales apparently do not migrate to the Antarctic or they should not be present in Northern Chile during the Southern Hemisphere summer.
